Calvert DeForest, better known to fans of David Letterman's late-night shows as Larry "Bud" Melman, died on this date in 2007. I don't need much nudging to post my favorite of Larry Bud's routines, the night he served as a welcoming committee for tourists arriving at a New York bus station.
This is really great stuff! It's amazing how revolutionary this kind of thing was for national late-night and how commonplace this kind of comedy is now. Dave really was a game changer.

Sometimes you got the feeling Dave condescended to his regulars, but I think his love for Bud comes through.
