music friday: cleaning out the lou closet
Friday, November 01, 2013
Everyone has had something to say about the death of Lou Reed, myself included. All that’s left is for me to give a Music Friday over to him. These are all songs that, as far as I can remember, were not mentioned by anyone I read over the past week. Call it Lou’s Underrated Classics.
- “Femme Fatale”. “You're put down in her book, you're number thirty seven, have a look.”
- “Beginning to See the Light”. “Some people work very hard, but still they never get it right.”
- “I Found a Reason”. “What comes is better than what came before.”
- “Vicious”. “You hit me with a flower.”
- “Men of Good Fortune”. “And me, I just don't care at all.”
- “Ennui”. “Look at them, they jump out of windows, and now they're just dead.”
- “She’s My Best Friend”. “She's my best friend, certainly not just like your average dog or car.”
- “I Believe in Love”. “I believe in good times, now … and I believe in the iron cross.”
- “Leave Me Alone”. “Don't you know some people, they just don't know when to stop.”
- “Families”. “And mama, I know how disappointed you are. And papa, I know that you feel the same way, too.”
- “The Gun”. “The man has a gun, he knows how to use it.”
- “Don’t Talk to Me About Work”. “How many insults must you take in this one life?”
- “Turn to Me”. “Remember, I'm the one who loves you, you can always give me a call.”
- “Like a Possum”. “I got a hole in my heart the size of a truck. It won't be filled by a one-night fuck.”
