Last night I checked out a program of short films at the New Parkway, a theater which rose out of the ashes left by the original Parkway, which was the first theater I remember that had couches and easy chairs. A friend is part of a team presenting a monthly batch of shorts, and last night’s group included some very interesting productions. Here’s Hal the Robot:

The series is part of something called Oakland First Fridays, and even though Oakland is right next to my home town of Berkeley, I admit I’d never heard of this, which draws crowds of 20,000 for “an immersive art and community experience”. Amazing what I find when I actually go out of the house.
